The Education Ministry has dismissed any possibility of unscheduled school closures before the official midterm break scheduled for later this month, noting that academic activities are proceeding normally in over 99 percent of educational institutions nationwide despite recent disturbances reported in certain regions.
Addressing attendees at the Kenya High School Speech and Prize Giving Ceremony, Principal Secretary for Basic Education Julius Bitok stated that the department is implementing strategies focused on preserving school stability and safeguarding educational processes.
Bitok confirmed that the official midterm break will still occur from June 24 to 28, with educational institutions continuing their operations as originally planned.
During the Kenya High School Speech and Prize Giving Day, I reiterated that no unschool closures will occur before the official midterm break scheduled for June 24-28, as academic activities continue normally across more than 99 percent of our 9,500-plus educational institutions, he stated.
The Principal Secretary indicated that the department is implementing specific initiatives in partnership with stakeholders to resolve issues that have recently interfered with educational activities in various regions of the nation.
Bitok explained that these measures seek to reestablish regular operations, protect educational continuity, and guarantee that students continue attending classes without interruption.
He emphasized that the department’s primary objective is to safeguard every child’s entitlement to continuous education while reinforcing stability within academic environments and resolving new issues as they arise.
Our department is proactively implementing focused measures in cooperation with concerned parties to reestablish regular conditions, protect educational processes, and maintain student presence in schools, he affirmed.
Our direction is evident: defending each child’s right to uninterrupted learning, fortifying stability within our educational establishments, and confronting emerging challenges with appropriate urgency and accountability.
In support of improving security and student well-being, Bitok revealed that the count of Quality Assurance Officials has risen from 600 to 1,000 personnel.
These officials have been dispatched throughout the nation for a comprehensive 10-day evaluation initiative.
To enhance school security and student welfare, we have expanded the Quality Assurance Officer contingent from 600 to 1,000 and assigned them to conduct a nationwide 10-day inspection program, he explained.
Bitok mentioned that results from these evaluations would direct the department’s subsequent actions as it strives to guarantee that schools remain secure and productive settings for education.
The outcomes will shape the department’s future measures as we persist in our efforts to maintain educational institutions as safe, secure, and favorable environments for learning. The protection and welfare of our students remain absolute priorities, he emphasized.
The Principal Speaker addressed an assembly of students, educators, guardians, and visitors convened at The Kenya High School to honor scholastic accomplishment and excellence among pupils.
He noted that the perseverance and commitment exhibited by students highlighted the imperative to persist in establishing safe and stable educational settings throughout the nation.
The fortitude and resolve shown by these accomplished young individuals today remind us of why we must maintain our dedicated efforts to establish safe, secure, and favorable conditions for education nationwide, he stated.
Bitok additionally praised the institution’s administration, student body, and broader community for their contributions to scholastic success and proper conduct.
My heartfelt thanks to the pupils, instructors, guardians, and the complete Kenya High School community for the gracious hospitality extended during today’s Speech and Prize Giving Ceremony, he expressed.
He commended the students for their exemplary behavior and scholastic achievements and congratulated those who performed exceptionally well in the 2025 national examinations.
