Life Sentence for Child Sexual Abuser

A court in Eldoret has handed down a life sentence to a man found guilty of defiling an 11-year-old girl.

Principal Magistrate Caroline Wattimah imposed the sentence after convicting the man of committing the offense on multiple occasions between October 21 and November 10, 2024, in Kamagut Area, Kamagut Location, Turbo Sub-County of Uasin Gishu County.

During the trial, the victim testified that the accused, her mother’s boyfriend, sexually assaulted her in her mother’s bed. She told the court that the threatened her with retaliation if she disclosed the abuse, warning that he would “pour glue in her mouth” if she told anyone.

The Director of Public Prosecutions, represented by Prosecutor Fredrick Rapando, requested the court to apply the law and impose the mandatory life sentence.

Prosecutors also requested that the accused be classified as a dangerous sexual offender and that the victim receive treatment and psychosocial support.

The court agreed with the prosecution’s requests, classified the accused as a dangerous sexual offender, and ordered that the victim receive medical care and psychosocial support services.
