Syokimau residents have been advised to stay alert and composed following reports of a hyena in the locality.

The Kenya Wildlife Service confirmed that the hyena was observed on May 10 along Mwananchi Road near Eastport Drive in Syokimau, Machakos County.

Although the Problem Animal Control team did not directly encounter the animal, fresh tracks verified its recent presence in the vicinity.

KWS stated that ground surveillance has been heightened, with initial findings indicating the hyena is traversing dense, remote terrain behind JKIA heading toward Katani.

The wildlife authority has assured the public that appropriate safety measures are in place, encouraging residents to maintain composure and avoid confronting or agitating the hyena.

Parents have been instructed to monitor their children closely and promptly notify the nearest KWS office or local officials of any wildlife encounters.

KWS reiterated its dedication to protecting both human safety and wildlife conservation.
