Sammy Kamau Ngotho Wins DCP Nomination for Ol Kalou By-Election

Sammy Kamau Ngotho has become the Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP) nominee for the Ol Kalou parliamentary by-election set to take place on July 16.

Kamau secured the DCP ticket through a decisive victory on Saturday, May 9, accumulating 12,957 votes during a fiercely contested nomination process.

His nearest rival, Paul Waiganjo, placed second with 4,978 votes in an event that featured nine candidates and drew substantial attendance.

Kamau now anticipates another opportunity to win the seat, having previously contested in 2022 under President William Ruto’s United Democratic Alliance (UDA) but losing to Jubilee’s David Kiaraho.

After receiving his certificate, Kamau expressed gratitude to his supporters, characterizing the triumph as representing all Ol Kalou residents who embrace unity, progress, and servant leadership.

He additionally urged his supporters to turn out in force to ensure his success during the July 16 by-elections.

“I appreciate your trust, prayers, encouragement, and commitment throughout this process. Together, we will advance more robustly and with greater determination to create a better Olkalou for all residents,” he stated.

“I now respectfully request your ongoing backing and votes on July 16 to enable us to transform our collective vision for Olkalou into actuality,” he added.

Following the 2022 elections, Kamau functioned as a political advisor to former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua and subsequently became a prominent DCP strategist in Nyandarua County.

His success in the DCP nominations establishes the groundwork for what many characterize as an impending direct political confrontation between UDA and DCP, in a competition viewed as evaluating influence in Nyandarua.

The nominations occurred one day after another party conducted their selection process on Friday, May 8, an event with lower attendance than the DCP proceedings.

The UDA primaries resulted in Samuel Muchina Nyaga becoming the party’s candidate for the by-elections after receiving 3,221 votes, surpassing his nearest competitor George Wambugu Kanuri by 144 votes, who accumulated 3,077 votes.

The Ol Kalou parliamentary seat became empty after the death of the previous incumbent in 2026. He was 62 years old when he passed away while receiving cancer treatment at Nairobi Hospital.
