Police Officers Arrested After Shooting Incident in Eldoret Night Club

Drama unfolded in Eldoret City on Friday night when two police officers were taken into custody after a shooting incident at a local nightclub. According to a police report submitted at Eldoret Police Station, the incident happened at Baniyas Night Club, situated approximately two kilometers from the station, during an evening out with the two officers. An official report noted that the two police officers entered the establishment at approximately 12:30pm, ordered food and beverages, and stayed until around 9pm when a disagreement began between them and a waiter. The official report further indicated that the confrontation intensified, with one of them producing a pistol and firing a single shot inside the club. “Bouncers at the establishment promptly disarmed the individual,” as stated in the official report. Police were notified and arrived at the location, where they apprehended the two individuals under the direction of the Officer Commanding Station (OCS) from Eldoret Police Station. After the arrest, police verified the recovery of a firearm. “A Ceska pistol with serial number KP KE G8262, containing 14 rounds of 9mm ammunition, was taken from the employees of the establishment,” the police report stated. The report also mentioned that a used cartridge was found at the scene as investigations into the shooting began. A subsequent search of the suspects resulted in the discovery of cash totaling Ksh673,000, 5 euros, 15 U.S. dollars, and 10 Polish zloty. During the incident, the officers were reportedly attacked by members of the public and suffered facial injuries before being helped by other officers. Further investigation revealed that the suspects were police officers, including a Chief Inspector serving in Nairobi Sub-county and a Police Constable assigned to Kapsaos Police Post in Turbo Sub-county, Uasin Gishu County. Both officers were later formally processed at Eldoret Police Station and remain in custody while awaiting further investigation into the incident.
