A 68-year-old woman was apprehended in Athi River after authorities learned she had been concealing a drug trafficking operation behind the facade of a typical elderly person conducting regular activities.
Teresia Mwikali Amukoa was intercepted by detectives from the Anti-Narcotics Unit and the Transnational Organised Crime Unit at the main entrance of Mutete Flats, where they had set up a checkpoint based on an informant’s tip.
At the time of her arrest, she was a passenger on a motorcycle, appearing to be an ordinary shopper with no outward sign of the contents concealed in her belongings.
Upon inspecting her three handbags, investigators discovered they were filled with packages of cannabis sativa rather than the expected household items.
The search was subsequently extended to her home, where additional packages of the illegal substance were discovered in a basket and a transparent plastic bag.
The suspect was immediately detained and transported to Muthaiga Police Station for processing before her court appearance.
The confiscated drugs have been preserved as evidence.
