40-Year-Old Willis Raburu Aims for Kisumu Senate Seat

Media personality Willis Raburu has announced his bid for the Kisumu Senatorial position, expressing readiness to enter politics and challenge established norms with what he calls “innovative and responsible leadership.” In a recent conversation, Raburu clarified that his political involvement is a deliberate choice, influenced by his political family background. He focused on the importance of generational shift, noting: “So when I’m elected as the Senator of Kisumu, I will be 40.” He presented this as a strategic effort to motivate younger individuals to pursue leadership roles earlier, highlighting the age contrast with past regional leaders. Traditionally, Kisumu’s Senate representation has been dominated by older politicians, such as Anyang’ Nyong’o, who took office in his late 60s, and Fred Outa, who began his term in his mid-50s. Raburu is positioning himself as an agent of change, claiming he would be the youngest senator in the region’s history and encouraging fellow young people to aspire to leadership positions by age 35.
