Kenya Mourns Air Force Brigadier Edgar Lopokoiyit

Retired Brigadier Edgar Pkiach Lopokoiyit, a decorated Kenya Air Force officer, has passed away recently after a long illness.

The nation of Kenya is grieving the loss of Retired Brigadier Edgar Pkiach Lopokoiyit, a distinguished officer in the Kenya Air Force who dedicated several decades of his life to serving the country.

Brigadier Lopokoiyit, who previously led the National Air Support Department (NASD), succumbed to a prolonged illness he endured with courage.

Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi expressed condolences, portraying him as ‘a brave, selfless individual and officer who dedicated himself completely to serving his Country.’

Mudavadi added, ‘I am profoundly saddened by the death of Retired Kenya Air Force Brigadier Edgar Pkiach Lopokoiyit, which occurred following an extended illness he bore with resilience.’

The Brigadier’s professional journey was characterized by exceptional achievements.

Beginning his career as a pilot in the Kenya Defence Forces, he progressed through the ranks to attain the position of Brigadier and subsequently held the role of Director at NASD, making significant contributions to enhancing Kenya’s aviation and defense capabilities.

His outstanding meritorious service was recognized with the Presidential Award of the Elder of the Order of the Burning Spear (EBS), among the nation’s most prestigious distinctions.

On April 9, family, acquaintances, and fellow members of the Kenya Defence Forces convened at Moi Air Base in Eastleigh for his funeral, honoring a man celebrated for his bravery, self-discipline, and love for his country.

His departure represents not only a personal tragedy for his loved ones but also diminishes the broader defense establishment and the nation that benefited from his remarkable service.

Brigadier Lopokoiyit bequeaths a heritage of commitment and valor, embodying the principles fundamental to Kenya’s armed forces traditions.

‘His legacy will persist in the individuals he influenced and the organizations he was instrumental in fortifying,’ stated Mudavadi.
