A joint security operation in Busia County intercepted a trailer transporting significant quantities of ethanol illegally along the Amase-Amongura Road.
Law enforcement officers grew suspicious of the vehicle and initiated a pursuit, which culminated in a thorough search upon stopping it. The examination uncovered that the trailer was loaded with ethanol lacking proper documentation, sparking questions about the shipment’s legitimacy.
The vehicle contained 76 plastic drums, each with a 250-litre capacity, resulting in a total of approximately 18,500 litres of confiscated ethanol.
The contraband substance is valued at approximately Ksh 22.2 million on the black market.
Three individuals associated with the smuggling attempt were apprehended immediately and remain in custody pending their formal court appearance.
The seized trailer has been moved to Adungosi Police Station for safekeeping and further investigation.
