Petrol Station Fire Destroys Five Vehicles on Kiambu Road

A fire at a petrol station along Kiambu Road resulted in the destruction of five vehicles and an adjacent food establishment when flames erupted during fuel unloading on Wednesday evening, according to police reports.

Local residents were alarmed as the flames quickly spread across the location until emergency services successfully contained the blaze.

Police investigations suggest the fire originated during the transfer of fuel from a tanker, following a spill that subsequently caught fire.

Witnesses informed authorities that a discarded cigarette might have ignited the flames.

Kiambu Governor Kimani Wamatangi mobilized all available county emergency resources to the incident site, deploying three fire engines to assist in controlling the situation.

Authorities are currently investigating the incident, with no casualties reported.

In an unrelated occurrence in Nairobi, flames at Lang’ata Women’s Prison during the evening of April 1, 2025, led to the destruction of approximately 20 semi-permanent structures housing prison personnel.

Firefighting teams from Nairobi City County Government and the Kenya Defence Forces arrived after receiving notification, sending two fire engines to the location.

Assisted by prison personnel, emergency services brought the blaze under control by approximately 9:00 pm, according to police officials.

Nairobi police chief Issa Mohamud verified that there were no deaths or injuries, though property of undetermined value was lost. The origin of the fire remains unidentified, and inquiries are continuing.

In another development in Kakamega County, a primary school fire during the night of April 1, 2026, resulted in the destruction of essential facilities, comprising a classroom, library, and examination hall.

Police reported that firefighters from West Kenya Sugar Company intervened and effectively managed to extinguish the flames.

There were no injuries recorded, and the reason for the fire has not yet been determined.

In a separate occurrence within Kiambu County, another fire in the Ngegu region during the same evening destroyed six residential rental properties.

Police noted that local residents responded promptly and successfully put out the blaze, though no belongings could be recovered from the damaged residences.

No casualties were reported, and authorities are currently investigating the cause of the fire.
