An Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) truck associated with the Linda Mwananchi faction was stoned while traveling to Kakamega County for a rally planned for Saturday, February 21.
Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna released videos showing the vehicle was part of a convoy heading to Kakamega when it was attacked at the Kona Mbaya trading center Friday morning.
According to footage shared by the senator, the assistant was chanting faction slogans just before a rock struck the truck.
Panic spread as the driver struggled to maintain control of the vehicle, while the assistant moved to the truck’s floor to avoid being hit.
The recording captures voices of those inside expressing fear before it ends abruptly. No injuries were reported as a result of the assault.
In response to the incident, Sifuna affirmed that the faction including Siaya Governor James Orengo and Embakasi East MP Babu Owino would proceed with the Kakamega rally as planned.
The attack occurred just one day after Sifuna cautioned against potential disorder, stating he had notified the Kakamega OCPD and shared a notice with the Interior Ministry.
He mentioned having distributed the notice within the Senate WhatsApp group, where Murkomen continues to be a member.
“Since Murkomen remains a member of the Senate WhatsApp group as a former senator, I have shared the notice of the Kakamega rally both in the group and directly to his personal WhatsApp number, preventing him from later claiming ignorance of the event, as he did regarding the Kitengela rally,” Sifuna explained.
This comment followed CS Murkomen’s assertion that he had not been informed about the upcoming Kitengela rally, which police disrupted, resulting in two deaths and fifty injuries.
Murkomen further contended that the opposition selected a market day to draw large crowds and accused them of transporting troublemakers from Machakos whom he alleged were instigating violence.
On Thursday, the DCP party had sent a letter to Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja, informing him of their plans to visit his office on February 20.
However, the visit did not materialize after the party took legal action against the inspector general due to his perceived reluctance to address police misconduct.
