Isiolo law enforcement authorities have detained six individuals and seized 18 illicit firearms during a continuing security initiative.

The confiscated weapons and related ammunition were presented on Sunday evening at the Isiolo Police Station, increasing the overall count of recovered weapons to 23.

Isiolo Police Commander Isaac Sang stated that the confiscated arsenal consists of four MAC-4 rifles, seven AK-47 rifles, three G3 rifles, one M16 rifle, and one British-made rifle. All firearms were confirmed to be in functional condition and were recovered with accompanying ammunition.

Sang encouraged citizens to voluntarily relinquish any unauthorized firearms in their custody, emphasizing that officials estimate over 500 illicit guns remain in civilian possession throughout Isiolo County. He cautioned that the ongoing operation will be escalated, and individuals who do not surrender prohibited weapons will face arrest and legal consequences.

The six individuals apprehended in relation to the recovered firearms are currently detained and will be brought before the judiciary following completion of investigations and processing procedures. Isiolo Deputy County Commissioner Benard Okwiri reported that despite ongoing security measures, there have been instances of bandits attempting to steal livestock. Nevertheless, he guaranteed residents that all such attempts have been effectively countered by security personnel.
