Kenya experienced a concerning increase in femicide cases in 2024, with the National Police Service reporting a rise from 535 cases in 2023 to 578 cases in 2024.
This information comes from a report by the Technical Working Group on Gender-Based Violence.
According to the report, Nairobi documented the highest number of femicide cases at 54, followed by Nakuru with 43 cases and Meru with 30 cases.
Other regions significantly impacted by this issue include Kiambu, Kisumu, Kilifi, and Kericho.
Trans Nzoia, Machakos, and Nandi were also among the top ten counties, each reporting at least 20 cases, demonstrating the widespread nature of this critical safety concern across the nation.
