Detectives from Nairobi Central Sub-County have apprehended two individuals and recovered over 900 mobile phones suspected to be stolen during an operation in Nairobi’s Central Business District.

The arrest resulted from an intelligence-driven operation along Charles Rubia Street near the Buscar bus stage, where officers intercepted two packages destined for Uganda.

Inspection revealed that the packages contained approximately 900 mobile phones. Authorities stated that the suspects failed to provide a convincing explanation for possessing the devices.

Initial inquiries suggest the suspects are connected to an extensive mobile phone theft network that steals phones from citizens and retail stores before smuggling them to neighboring countries.

The suspects, named Brian Yomasia and Stephen Okwachi Shisia, have been transported to Nairobi Central Police Station alongside the recovered phones and remain in custody awaiting formal charges.

This seizure follows another police operation on January 24, 2026, during which more than 150 stolen mobile phones were confiscated.

Police continue their investigations as they step up efforts to combat mobile phone theft through intelligence-based operations.
