COVID-19 Rumour Mongers in Bomet Risk Arrest, Warns Commissioner
The Bomet County Commissioner, Dr. Ahmed Omar, has issued a stern warning to individuals spreading false information and unverified rumours about the COVID-19 pandemic, stating that they risk arrest and prosecution. The Commissioner expressed concern that the circulation of alarming and fictitious stories on social media and through word-of-mouth is causing unnecessary panic and fear among residents, undermining public health efforts.

Dr. Omar emphasized that the government will not tolerate any form of misinformation that threatens public order and health. He directed the police and the National Government Administration Officers (NGAO) to monitor social media platforms and public gatherings closely and to take legal action against anyone found peddling falsehoods about the disease, its origins, or government measures. The public was urged to rely only on official communication from the Ministry of Health and other authorized government channels.

The Commissioner assured residents that the government is fully in control of the situation and is taking all necessary steps to manage the pandemic. He called on the public to be responsible and to verify any information before sharing it, reminding them that spreading false alarms is an offense under the law. The warning aims to curb the infodemic and ensure that the public receives accurate and life-saving information during the health crisis.
