Local traders in Kwale County have embraced the newly opened Diani Modern Market, hailing it as a significant improvement for their commercial activities and workplace environment.
Head of State William Ruto officially inaugurated the market on Saturday, which has already been fully occupied by over 300 vendors offering agricultural products and various merchandise.
Opened in June 2024, the establishment has been transferred to local merchants as part of governmental initiatives to enhance trading environments for small-scale entrepreneurs.
During his visit, the Chief Executive also laid the cornerstone for the Lunga Lunga ESP Market located at the Kenya-Tanzania border and the Mkuluni/Ganze ESP Market to stimulate commerce in the area.
Prior to this, he had laid the foundation for the Kinango ESP Market in Kwale County and officially opened and examined the Kizingitini Fish Market and Hindi Market in Lamu County.
The coastal expedition is scheduled to conclude on Monday with the ceremonial laying of the foundation for the Makupa Modern Market in Mombasa.
Authorities stated that these marketplaces are designed to function as commercial centers that will enhance commerce, increase earnings for vendors and agricultural producers, and foster the development of micro, small and medium-sized businesses in the locality.
