Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) in Taita Taveta have arrested three individuals believed to be the masterminds behind a series of violent robberies targeting motorists along the Nairobi-Mombasa Highway. The suspects were apprehended in a meticulously planned operation following weeks of surveillance on their activities. According to the police, the gang specialized in ambushing vehicles, especially at night, and robbing passengers of cash, mobile phones, and other valuables at gunpoint. The arrests are considered a major breakthrough in efforts to secure the vital transport corridor. The DCI recovered several items believed to have been stolen from victims, which will be used as evidence.

The Taita Taveta County Police Commander commended the detectives for their work and stated that a manhunt is ongoing for other gang members still at large. The three suspects are currently in custody and will be arraigned in court to face multiple charges of robbery with violence.
