Interior CS Kindiki Declares 12 Locations in Tana River as Disturbed and Dangerous
Interior Cabinet Secretary Kithure Kindiki has officially declared 12 locations in Tana River County as disturbed and dangerous following a wave of deadly inter-communal clashes. The gazette notice places these areas under a special security operation to curb the violence that has resulted in multiple deaths and displacements. The declaration grants security agencies enhanced powers to restore order.

The 12 locations, primarily in the Bura and Galole sub-counties, have been the epicenter of recurrent conflicts over pasture and water resources. CS Kindiki stated that the state will deploy a multi-agency security team to conduct disarmament, pursue perpetrators of violence, and restore normalcy. The operation will involve both the National Police Service and the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF).

The government has assured residents of its commitment to their safety but warned that those involved in the clashes will be treated as criminals. The declaration paves the way for a more robust and sustained security intervention to break the cycle of violence and pave the way for peace-building and development in the troubled region.
