Police rescue KWS officer from suspected armed robbers in Kinoo, Kiambu

by KenyaPolls

In a dramatic early-morning operation, police in Kiambu County rescued a Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS) officer who had been bound, blindfolded, and locked into the boot of a vehicle by suspected armed robbers. The National Police Service (NPS) says the incident unfolded on October 6, 2025, after patrol officers responded to reports of a suspicious car in Kinoo. When they attempted to stop the vehicle, the occupants tried to make a getaway. Officers gave chase and were able to arrest two individuals.

Upon searching the intercepted vehicle, the police were shocked to find the tied-up man in the trunk — later identified as the KWS officer, who had been traveling to Nairobi.

The officer said the gang had robbed him by draining funds from his mobile wallet and revealed that the suspects had been targeting passengers along the same route, using their car as a disguised robbery vehicle.
Several stolen mobile phones were recovered from the detained suspects, suggesting a larger pattern of theft beyond just this abduction.
The swift response by the police has drawn praise from both security officials and the public. In its statement, the NPS commended the officers for their vigilance and quick action, noting that their intervention likely prevented further harm or even fatalities.

Still, the rescue has raised alarm over rising highway crime, particularly along commuter routes into Nairobi. Many are calling for enhanced intelligence-gathering, more road patrols, and better protection for vulnerable commuters.

Looking ahead, the NPS says investigations are ongoing to track down the remaining suspects who fled during the chase.

Authorities have also reiterated their call for public cooperation in the fight against crime, urging people to report suspicious activity through toll-free hotlines or anonymously via the #FichuaKwaDCI platform
