Ministry of Interior Launches ‘Jukwaa la Usalama’ Pwani Edition, Orders Crackdown on Coastal Criminal Networks
The Ministry of Interior has officially launched the coastal region edition of its ‘Jukwaa la Usalama’ (Security Forum) initiative, directing a comprehensive crackdown on criminal networks operating in the area. The forum, which brings together security chiefs, county commissioners, and local leaders from the six coastal counties, aims to formulate a unified strategy against terrorism, drug trafficking, radicalization, and organized crime. Interior Cabinet Secretary Kithure Kindiki presided over the launch, issuing firm instructions for the immediate disruption of all criminal and terror infrastructure.

CS Kindiki outlined a multi-agency action plan that includes intensified patrols, enhanced border surveillance, and targeted operations to dismantle the financial and logistical networks of criminal gangs and extremist cells. He specifically ordered security agencies to pursue and apprehend the kingpins behind the drug and illicit brew trade, whom he accused of destroying the lives of the youth and fueling insecurity. The CS emphasized that the government will not allow the coastal region, a vital economic zone, to be held hostage by criminals.

The ‘Jukwaa la Usalama Pwani’ is designed to foster greater collaboration between the national government and coastal communities. Security officials were directed to work closely with grassroots leaders, including elders and religious figures, to combat radicalization and gather actionable intelligence. The launch signals a new, more aggressive phase in the government’s security policy for the coast, moving beyond rhetoric to coordinated, decisive action aimed at restoring lasting peace and stability to the region.
