Business Community in Embu Protest as Criminal Gangs Reign Terror
The business community in Embu Town has taken to the streets in a peaceful protest, decrying the reign of terror by criminal gangs that have led to a surge in armed robberies and extortion. The traders, who marched to the County Commissioner’s office, carried placards detailing their ordeals and demanding immediate government intervention. They reported that the gangs operate with brazen impunity, especially at night, robbing shops and threatening shopkeepers.

During the demonstration, the business owners revealed that they are now forced to close their premises as early as 6:30 p.m. due to fear of attacks, significantly cutting into their evening sales and livelihoods. They presented a petition to the County Commissioner, calling for increased police patrols, the installation of street lights in dark alleys, and the immediate arrest of the known gang leaders who have been terrorizing the town.

The County Commissioner acknowledged the grievances and assured the traders that a security operation to flush out the criminal elements is imminent. He announced plans to increase police visibility and set up dedicated patrols in the central business district. The business community has vowed to sustain pressure on the authorities until their security is guaranteed and they can operate without fear.
