We Fled to Ruto Due to Leadership Vacuum – Githunguri MP Gathoni Wamuchomba Writes to Uhuru Kenyatta

by KenyaPolls

Githunguri Member of Parliament Gathoni Wamuchomba has composed a frank and heartfelt open letter to former Kenyan President Uhuru Kenyatta, calling upon him to actively participate in rebuilding unity and political guidance in the Mt. Kenya region.

In her forthright correspondence, Wamuchomba refers to Uhuru Kenyatta as her ‘political godfather’, showing admiration while questioning his withdrawal from regional leadership after completing his presidential term. She contends that during his last years in power, leaders from the Mt. Kenya region were marginalized, depriving them of necessary guidance.

Gathoni Wamuchomba confronts Uhuru Kenyatta directly.

According to the legislator, this leadership vacuum compelled numerous leaders to align with President William Ruto, whom she claims embraced and backed them politically, ultimately gaining their support for his victorious presidential campaign. “We sought refuge with Ruto because you abandoned us without guidance and he welcomed us,” she stated.

Wamuchomba observes that the estrangement between Kenyatta and Ruto caught many in the region by surprise, as they were not informed about the extent of the division. She implied that Mt. Kenya voters made political decisions without complete understanding of the conflicts between the two leaders.

The parliamentarian also connects current economic difficulties, especially elevated taxation and debt, to Kenyatta’s administration, though she recognizes that certain of his delayed development initiatives are now being resumed under the present government.

MP Gathoni communicates her concerns to Uhuru Kenyatta.

In a contemplative manner, Wamuchomba observed that the Mt. Kenya region is now profoundly divided, characterizing it as “fragmented and filled with animosity.” She apologizes for previous defiance toward Kenyatta and admits that internal political fissures have expanded.

Advocating for decisive measures, Wamuchomba urges Kenyatta to officially convene a unity forum for Mt. Kenya leaders, stressing the necessity for organized dialogue to heal divisions instead of casual appeals made during public gatherings.

The legislator further questions Kenyatta’s political alliance with opposition leader Raila Odinga, implying that this action left many of his supporters feeling politically deserted.

She also criticizes Rigathi Gachagua, a regional political figure known as ‘Mr. Wamunyoro’, accusing him of employing divisive language, showing disrespect to women leaders, and fostering discord within the region.

Despite the pointed criticism, Wamuchomba reaffirms Kenyatta’s status as the paramount political figure, asserting that he continues to be the only leader capable of uniting Mt. Kenya and advocating on its behalf.

The correspondence concludes with an appeal for peace, unity, and leadership, as political tensions within the Mt. Kenya region continue to influence the nation’s wider political environment.
