Sironga Girls Honours Excellence, Launches Court

Education Cabinet Secretary Julius Ogamba has called on learners nationwide to stay focused and committed to their studies, saying achievement depends on determination, discipline and persistence.
At the annual prize-giving day at Sironga Girls High School on Friday, Ogamba recognised students who performed well in their examinations and urged those who missed awards to remain hopeful.
He described education as a continuous journey, saying learners who are prepared to work hard must also be ready to face challenges on the path to success.
Ogamba said the Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC) is helping equip learners with practical knowledge and skills for the future, adding that the new system appears to nurture students effectively.
The event attracted political leaders from different parts of the country, including West Mugirango MP Steve Mogaka, Nyamira Woman Representative Jerusha Momanyi, Mwingi West MP Mwengi Mutuse, Taita Taveta MP John Mbwire and nominated MP Rene Mayaka.
Mogaka appreciated Ogamba for accepting the school’s invitation and also thanked the legislators who took time from their schedules to attend the ceremony.
He commended Sironga Girls for sustaining a strong academic record and shaping responsible citizens, urging students to continue pursuing excellence and following their dreams because education remains a key equalizer in society.
Momanyi asked parents to encourage and support girls, saying they are among the country’s future leaders.
She said girls must be inspired because they represent an important generation of women in Kenya.
She also advised students to uphold discipline and respect their parents and teachers, while requesting the Ministry of Education to provide the school with a new bus to address transport difficulties.
Mutuse praised Sironga Girls for building a solid reputation and producing graduates who continue to contribute positively to society.
He said the students would use their education to benefit Kenyans and added that President William Ruto’s administration has made education a priority so learners gain the knowledge and skills required in the modern world.
Mbwire encouraged the students to concentrate on their studies and avoid behaviour that could put their future at risk.
He said good things would emerge from Sironga, drawing a comparison to what came from Nazareth.
Meanwhile, Mayaka urged learners to reject tribalism and instead embrace unity and diversity.
She told the girls to have confidence in their abilities and pursue their ambitions with determination.
She emphasized that girls are just as capable as boys.
The event celebrated academic achievement while also giving leaders an opportunity to motivate students to become disciplined, hardworking and responsible citizens who will help shape the country’s future.
Guests also commissioned a basketball court at the school, saying the facility would help identify and develop sporting talent beyond the classroom.
The court was financed through West Mugirango’s National Government Constituency Development Fund (NG-CDF), which is overseen by Mogaka.
Mogaka, who is the fund’s patron, said the court marked an important step toward nurturing talent and promoting sports excellence among learners.
