Learners at Bogesaka DOK Primary and Junior Secondary School are expected to gain access to modern digital learning facilities after the launch of a Sh62 million infrastructure project by the Safaricom and M-Pesa Foundations.
During the launch, Principal Secretary for Broadcasting and Telecommunications Stephen Isaboke said the initiative would equip students for a digital future by introducing internet-connected computers and upgraded learning spaces.
Isaboke said the computers will provide internet access for research, adding that the facility will also be available to the community on weekends.
He noted that the school has served the area for many years but needs major upgrades, and he appreciated the Safaricom Foundation for supporting its reconstruction.
The Principal Secretary also encouraged Kenyans to register for Social Health Authority services and urged parents, teachers and community members to guide children on discipline and moral conduct.
He said children should be taught values that will help them grow into responsible citizens.
M-Pesa Foundation Project Manager Engineer Zachary Hamptons said the project is part of the Citizens of the Future programme, which aims to improve lives through investment in education.
Hamptons said education is central to community development, which is why the foundation is investing Sh62 million to upgrade the school’s infrastructure.
According to Hamptons, the project will include modern classrooms, a new administration block, a fully equipped ICT laboratory, a science laboratory, a kitchen and improved sanitation facilities.
He said the foundation is working closely with the national government, county government and the local community to ensure the project is implemented successfully.
