Nominated Senator Veronica Maina has lauded First Lady Rachel Ruto as the “steady rock” supporting President William Ruto, highlighting her dedication to prayer and spiritual guidance.
Speaking at the 2026 National Prayer Breakfast Women’s Convocation held at the Safari Park Hotel in Nairobi on Wednesday, Maina emphasized that the First Lady has maintained her faith foundation despite occupying one of the nation’s most prominent roles.
“We profoundly respect you as women leaders,” Maina stated.
“Thank you for being a mentor. Thank you for being a mother to our nation. Thank you for being the unwavering support that enables our President to succeed.”
The senator commended Rachel Ruto for her regular practice of prayer and fasting, suggesting that her example should motivate Kenyans to seek divine guidance for the country.
“This is a woman of faith who prioritizes prayer and fasting,” Maina said.
“If Her Excellency, residing in the official residence, dedicates time to prayer and fasting and occasionally abstains from the finest offerings to seek God, how much more should we seek divine intervention for our nation?”
Maina also celebrated the First Lady’s “Tuombeni Kenya” initiative, noting its significant contribution in mobilizing Kenyans to pray during periods of national distress and uncertainty.
“You recall when Her Excellency initiated Tuombeni Kenya during times of anxiety and crisis in our nation,” she said.
“She traveled across all 47 counties, calling upon religious leaders to humbly kneel before God and pray for the restoration of our country.”
According to the senator, the initiative helped foster unity and faith when many Kenyans were facing economic and social challenges.
“God has elevated Kenya to greater heights,” she added.
Maina further encouraged Kenyans to embrace prayer, humility, and forgiveness, asserting that leadership should be grounded in faith and service to the people.
The Women’s Convocation gathered women leaders, clergy members, and invited guests in preparation for the National Prayer Breakfast scheduled for Thursday at Safari Park Hotel.
This year’s prayer breakfast centers on the theme of forgiveness and reconciliation, with leaders expected to contemplate national unity and peaceful coexistence ahead of the 2027 General Election.
Organizers indicate that the annual event aims to unite leaders from various sectors for prayerful consideration of the nation’s condition.
In recent years, Rachel Ruto has spearheaded several faith-based and community empowerment programs, including the “Mama Kitchen Garden” project focused on enhancing family welfare, environmental conservation, and household economic strengthening.
