Probe reveals exploitation network, 22 girls rescued in trafficking case

A 27-year-old individual connected to a suspected child trafficking and sexual exploitation network appeared before Shanzu Law Courts on Wednesday following the rescue of 22 girls in Mombasa and Kilifi counties by detectives.

The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) reported that the arrest resulted from an intelligence-driven operation involving detectives from the Anti-Human Trafficking and Child Protection Unit and Regional Criminal Investigations Office personnel in Mombasa.

Authorities indicated that the operation followed weeks of inquiries into allegations of child abuse directed at susceptible young girls.

Detectives reportedly located the suspect at a residence in the Concordia area of Kisauni Sub-County, where officers discovered him with three female minors.

Initial findings, according to the DCI, uncovered what authorities characterized as a “disturbing plot” allegedly involving purported rescue centers functioning throughout Mombasa and Kilifi counties.

Law enforcement stated that these establishments were introduced as venues for “supporting and guiding young girls,” but investigators now suspect they were allegedly being employed for the sexual exploitation and mistreatment of children.

The DCI additionally noted that the suspect subsequently guided authorities to another location in Ribe, Rabai Sub-County, where investigators rescued 19 additional female minors.

The most recent rescue increased the total number of girls recovered during the operation to 22.

When appearing before the Shanzu Law Courts, the suspect confronted multiple accusations, such as defilement, child trafficking for sexual exploitation, facilitation of child trafficking, and child abuse.

He denied all allegations and was denied bail. The case is set for review on June 8, 2026.

In an official statement, the DCI affirmed its dedication to safeguarding children from exploitation, mistreatment, and trafficking.

“The Directorate of Criminal Investigations remains dedicated to protecting children from exploitation, abuse, and trafficking, and those implicated in such abhorrent acts will be persistently tracked and held accountable,” the agency stated.

This case contributes to increasing apprehension regarding purported trafficking and exploitation rings targeting defenseless children under the pretense of charitable or rescue initiatives.

Officials have not released additional information about the rescued children, though inquiries continue.
