The National Police Service (NPS) has denounced three violent occurrences reported in Nairobi over the past day, encompassing a petrol assault on a woman in Mwiki and attacks on traffic police officers in Embakasi and Lang’ata.
In a communication released on May 17, 2026, authorities stated that a woman from Mwiki in Kasarani Sub-county is battling for survival at Kenyatta National Hospital following being reportedly covered in petrol and ignited.
“The National Police Service firmly denounces three incidents reported in the Nairobi region within the last 24 hours,” the Police declared.
According to the police statement, initial inquiries suggest the assault might be connected to her political stance, with the case now being examined by a specialized team from the DCI headquarters.
The organization also confirmed that a motorist featured in a widely circulated social media video attacking a traffic officer on duty in Embakasi has been recognized, with appropriate procedures in progress.
In another incident in Lang’ata, police reported that the team of a Metro Shuttle bus supposedly assaulted a traffic officer who was implementing regulations. The alleged perpetrators were apprehended and the vehicle seized.
“NPS strongly denounces all three incidents. Political intolerance cannot exist in competitive politics, our democracy, or our legal framework. Moreover, any assault, whether verbal, physical, or of any nature, against a police officer is a violation to the rule of law and compromises the honor and respectability of the National Police Service. Such acts are an attack on our shared liberty,” the statement indicated.
The police further cautioned that assaults against officers undermine the rule of law and committed to taking decisive legal measures against anyone who hinders officers during their official duties.
