The Nursing Council of Kenya (NCK) has cautioned the public about a private institution conducting unauthorized nursing training programs, advising prospective students and their families to be vigilant.
Through an “important announcement” issued on April 20, 2026, the council identified Northlands International Medical Training College as an entity “claiming to provide nursing education… lacking the mandatory NCK approval.”
The regulatory body stressed its dedication to “maintaining superior standards in nursing and midwifery education,” and reaffirmed its position as “the only entity authorized to approve nursing and midwifery training programs and institutions within Kenya.”
NCK cautioned that any program operating without their certification is invalid, noting: “Any course delivered without NCK endorsement is NOT accredited and FAILS to meet the necessary benchmarks for training and professional practice.”
The council additionally clarified that certain programs frequently promoted to potential students are not officially recognized.
“Nurse Aid or Nursing Assistant training is NOT a certified program by the Nursing Council of Kenya,” the announcement states.
Aspiring students and guardians have been encouraged to confirm the accreditation status of educational institutions before registration.
The council instructed the public to visit its official portal for a comprehensive directory of sanctioned training institutions and programs.
“This communication serves exclusively to alert the public and is not intended to cause embarrassment to any person or organization,” NCK specified, noting it will assume no responsibility for damages resulting from enrollment in unauthorized institutions.
The advisory comes during a period of increasing apprehension regarding the expansion of unaccredited educational establishments offering diverse programs across Kenya, prompting doubts about the caliber of instruction provided.”
