The Nairobi Hospital is lamenting the death of Veteran gynecologist Job Obwaka, a esteemed medical professional whose contributions to healthcare and institutional leadership have been characterized as profound and lasting.

In a declaration released on Saturday, May 2, 2026, Board Chairman Barcley Onyambu honored Obwaka as a committed clinician and an influential presence within the hospital community.

“It is with deep regret that we recognize the death of Dr. Job Obwaka, an honored member of our medical community and a respected leader within The Nairobi Hospital,” Onyambu stated.

Obwaka worked for numerous years as an Admitting Consultant at the hospital, establishing a reputation for clinical excellence, professionalism, and steadfast dedication to patient care.

His practice earned him the admiration of both colleagues and patients, many of whom depended on his expertise and empathetic approach to treatment.

“Dr. Obwaka served with devotion as a long-serving Admitting Consultant… where his clinical excellence, professionalism, and dedication to patient care earned him the profound respect of colleagues and patients alike,” the chairman observed.

Beyond his clinical responsibilities, Obwaka also played a significant role in the governance of the institution.

In 2025, he served as a member of the Board of Management, contributing to strategic decision-making and institutional advancement during a pivotal time.

“We also acknowledge his service as a member of the Board of Management in 2025. His commitment and stewardship to The Nairobi Hospital’s mission played a vital role in shaping our governance and strategic direction,” Onyambu added.

The hospital leadership characterized his death as a significant loss not only to the institution but also to the broader medical community in Kenya.

Obwaka died Friday evening at 7 pm at the same hospital where he attended to patients for years, his wife, Everose Obwaka, confirmed.

A source at the Hospital indicated that Obwaka was transported to the facility and was declared dead upon arrival.

Highly regarded in Kenya’s medical community, Obwaka dedicated much of his life to advancing women’s health and mentoring younger medical professionals.

On behalf of the Board, management, staff, and the entire hospital community, Onyambu expressed condolences to Obwaka’s family, friends, and staff at his private clinic.

“We stand with you in grieving the loss of an exceptional doctor, colleague, and leader,” he stated.

“The Nairobi Hospital remains prepared to assist the family in any manner possible during this time.”

The hospital noted that his influence will continue to be felt for years to come.

“Dr. Obwaka’s legacy and his substantial contribution to the medical profession and to this institution will be long remembered,” Onyambu concluded.
