The government has expressed its dedication to enhancing collaboration with the global football authority, FIFA, highlighting its contribution to the sport’s advancement within Kenya.
Salim Mvurya, Cabinet Secretary for Youth Affairs, Creative Economy and Sports, commended the current FIFA Series event in Kenya, calling it a well-timed development that supports the Ministry’s initiatives to improve football quality nationwide.
Mvurya spoke following a significant discussion with FIFA’s Deputy Chief Member Associations and Regional Director for Africa, Gelson Fernandes.
The gathering also included FKF President Hussein Mohamed and high-ranking representatives from CECAFA and COSAFA.
He stated that the competition indicates increasing international trust in Kenya’s football progress.
He pointed out that recent trips by FIFA and CAF officials, followed by the FIFA Series, suggest favorable progress for the sport.
Regarding AFCON 2027, Mvurya mentioned that the championship offers a significant chance to strengthen local skills in event coordination and administration.
He noted that the primary use of Kenyan staff in the event showcases the government’s and FKF’s dedication to nurturing domestic talent.
Fernandes shared these views, stressing FIFA’s emphasis on facilities and sustained expansion.
He disclosed that preparations for a Technical Centre in Machakos County are advancing after a consensus last August between FIFA authorities and the Kenyan administration, though certain particulars remain pending.
He also declared that a FIFA Arena initiative will soon commence in the nation.
Furthermore, conversations are continuing about stadium improvements in Mombasa, with an emphasis on discovering talent throughout Kenya, not only in Nairobi.
