Britam has revealed four professional golfers it will sponsor for the second season of the Professional Golfers of Kenya (PGK) Equator Tour, highlighting the company’s dedication to advancing professional golf in Kenya and throughout East Africa.
The financial institution has chosen Kennedy Abuto, Simon Njogu, John Kagiri, and Joyce Wanjiru to represent Britam during the 2026/27 PGK Equator Tour season.
Wanjiru is among only three female professionals competing this year, alongside Naom Wafula and Margaret Njoki.
Britam Group Managing Director and CEO Tom Gitogo stated that the sponsorship demonstrates the company’s ongoing commitment to nurturing professional golf talent.
“Our objective is to elevate the quality of professional golf in Kenya and across East Africa.
For the second consecutive year, we are supporting four athletes who will proudly represent Britam and compete at the highest standards. We wish them a successful season,” said Gitogo.
The PGK Equator Tour functions as a crucial qualification route for Kenyan professionals aiming to enter the Magical Kenya Open, the nation’s foremost international golf tournament on the DP World Tour schedule.
This season’s tour comprises 11 tournaments at some of Kenya’s premier golf courses.
The initial two events have already concluded at Vetlab Sports Club and Thika Sports Club, with future competitions planned for Limuru, Nyali, Ruiru, Nakuru, Sigona, Royal Nairobi, Mt. Kipipiri Golf and Resort, and Diamond Leisure Beach and Golf Resort prior to the season’s final event at a location yet to be disclosed.
Wanjiru expressed gratitude for the sponsorship, viewing the tour as an important venue for professional golfers to challenge themselves against the nation’s finest players.
“The PGK Equator Tour is a distinguished competition that offers participants the opportunity to face some of the top golfers in the country. I am proud to be a member of the Britam team and one of the limited number of women in this year’s tournament,” she said.
“I hope we achieve strong results and continue advancing our skills.”
In addition to financial support, Britam has secured each of the four golfers with Golfers’ Insurance Coverage, providing them with protection throughout their competitive season.
According to the company, the first PGK Equator Tour generated substantial sporting and economic advantages, creating opportunities for players while stimulating business for host clubs, hotels, transportation services, restaurants and other providers in tournament locations.
Following the first two rounds of the current season, Samuel Chege tops the leaderboard with a gross score of 278, with Dismas Indiza closely behind on 279 and Michael Karanga in third with 283.
The third tournament is set to occur at Limuru Country Club from June 18 to 21, 2026.
