President William Ruto has implemented several promotions, appointments, and transfers within the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) based on recommendations from the Defence Council.
In a statement issued on Friday, June 5, Ruto named Major General John Maiso Nkoimo as the new Deputy Commander of the Kenya Army, succeeding Major General Mohamed Nur Hassan, who has retired from service.
Prior to his new role, Major General Nkoimo was serving as the General Officer Commanding (GOC) Central Command.
Additionally, Ruto appointed Brigadier Mohamud Salah Farah as the Deputy Air Force Commander. Farah had previously been the Base Commander at Laikipia Air Base.
Among the recent military adjustments, Brigadier William Kamoiro was promoted to Major General and assigned as the General Officer Commanding Central Command, filling the position vacated by Nkoimo’s promotion.
Brigadier Peter Kipketer Limo was also promoted to Major General and named Assistant Chief of Defence Forces responsible for Personnel and Logistics at Defence Headquarters.
Limo replaces Major General Edward Rugendo, who has been appointed Managing Director of the Defence Forces Welfare Services.
Before his current position, Limo had been serving as the Managing Director at the Defence Forces Welfare Services.
Furthermore, Ruto extended the tenure of Kenya Navy Commander Major General Paul Owuor Otieno by one year following Defence Council recommendations.
In the Kenya Army, Brigadier Francis Njoroge Kuria was promoted to Major General and appointed Director of Medical Services, while Colonel Mark Joseph Awala was elevated to Brigadier and named Chief of Operations at Kenya Army Headquarters.
Colonel Makonani Balata was promoted to Brigadier and appointed Commander of Langata Garrison, while Colonel Asma Diramo Kofa was promoted to Brigadier and appointed Chief of Provost at the Directorate of Oversight, Compliance and Accountability.
Within the Kenya Air Force, and appointed College Secretary at the National Defence College.
Colonel Benedetta Margaret Kikechi was also elevated to Brigadier and appointed Chief of Research and Development at the Defence National Security Industries.
Lieutenant Colonel Bernadette Awar Eyanae was promoted to Colonel and appointed Colonel Plans and Programmes at the International Peace Support Training Centre.
