DCP Party leader Rigathi Gachagua has confirmed his presidential candidacy under the ‘United Alternative Government’.
He has emphasized that his presidential bid should not raise concerns about opposition unity.
The former Deputy President has acknowledged that while multiple opposition contenders are seeking the presidency and building personal support, they will ultimately unite behind a single candidate to challenge President Ruto.
Gachagua has assured he will not create divisions within the opposition and pledged to support whoever wins the presidential nominations.
He has also noted that currently, all opposition candidates are working to establish credibility and popularity.
Consequently, his announcement should not be a cause for concern.
Gachagua made these statements during a church service at PCEA Illasit Church in Kajiado South, Kajiado County.
Addressing the people of Kajiado South, the DCP Chief promised to complete all stalled projects, including the Illasit-Taveta road.
He accused President William Ruto of initiating the Taveta road construction for personal gain.
Regarding recent attacks on former President Uhuru Kenyatta by Kenya Kwanza leaders, Gachagua has called on them to leave the retired President alone, stressing that he deserves respect.
He reiterated that Uhuru Kenyatta has constitutional rights to freedom of expression and association, commended his tenure, stating that he performed wellunlike what he claims the current administration has achieved.
Gachagua also criticized President Ruto for including some ODM cabinet secretaries in the Central Management Committee, calling it inappropriate for public officials to participate in partisan politics.
He warned that President Ruto is close to undermining ODM, emphasizing that robust political parties are essential for democracy and require protection.
Gachagua is currently on a three-day campaign in Kajiado County, seeking support from the Maa community.
