Paul Kimani Kaberia has passed away.
Radio Jambo’s celebrated sports commentator Paul Kimani Kaberia, affectionately called Diblo, has died, causing shock and sorrow throughout Kenya’s sports community.
Diblo passed away early Sunday morning at a Ruaraka hospital following a brief illness.
His unique voice, wit, and love for the sport established him as one of the most prominent personalities in Kenyan sports commentary.
Supporters nationwide recall his animated storytelling and his signature ‘Taaaarifa!’ cry that brought football commentary to life.
The Sports Journalists Association of Kenya (SJAK), of which Diblo was an active member, conveyed profound grief at his departure.
In their official statement, SJAK President James Waindi remarked: ‘We have lost not only a gifted journalist but also a brother and teammate whose enthusiasm for sports was reflected in all his work.’
‘Diblo’s death creates a significant gap in sports journalism and within SJAK FC.’
Diblo served as a cornerstone of unity within SJAK FC, where his sportsmanship and humor delighted fellow members.
His coworkers at Radio Jambo and the broader media community have portrayed him as an extraordinary narrator who enhanced sports journalism in Kenya.
Famous broadcaster Maina Kageni shared his sorrow in a touching message, stating: ‘What a tremendous loss? He was gifted, dedicated and passionate… a dynamic host and commentator.’
‘My deepest sympathies to friends and family…. thank you for all your contributions on radio Diblo… we will meet again later….’
The Football Kenya Federation also expressed condolences, with President Hussein Mohammed observing that Diblo was ‘a revered sports journalist, deeply committed to his profession’
