IG Kanja visits police station in Nyeri after fire incident

Nyeri County residents and police officers received a high-level inspection after a fire severely damaged Kiamariga Police Station last week. Inspector-General of the National Police Service (NPS), Douglas Kanja, visited the facility on Friday, November 14, 2025, to assess the aftermath and support the officers affected by the incident.

The blaze caused extensive damage, particularly to the station’s armoury and records office. According to the NPS, the swift response by the Nyeri County Government Fire Brigade, aided by local residents and police officers, was crucial in containing the fire and preventing further destruction. IG Kanja praised the prompt collaboration, describing it as a testament to the strong bond between the police and the local community.

During his visit, Kanja assured officers that the damaged structures would be repaired promptly. He encouraged personnel to continue embracing community policing as an effective strategy for crime prevention, commending their dedication and professionalism despite the setback. The IG also urged officers to maintain fairness and firmness while enforcing the law, emphasizing the importance of upholding the rule of law in all their duties.
