Residents and businesses across parts of Nairobi and nearby areas will face a 24-hour water supply interruption this weekend as Nairobi City Water and Sewerage Company carries out emergency repairs on a major transmission pipeline.
The utility said Friday that the shutdown is needed because of a leak on the NCT Raw Water Pipeline near the Kigoro Treatment Works, requiring urgent work to protect the transmission system and maintain dependable service.
The disruption is scheduled to start at 6:00 a.m. on Saturday, June 20, and is expected to continue until 6:00 a.m. on Sunday, June 21.
Affected areas include Westlands, Lavington, Kilimani, Upper Hill, Ngong Road, Madaraka, Lang’ata, Kibera, Karen, Uthiru, Kawangware, Kangemi, Ruai, Ngundu and Kamulu. Customers supplied by MAVWASCO and Oloolaiser Water Company will also be impacted by the temporary shutdown.
Nairobi Water has urged residents, institutions and businesses in the affected zones to store enough water before the interruption to reduce inconvenience during the repair period.
The utility said technical teams will work through the day and night to finish the repairs and restore normal supply as quickly as possible after the work is completed.
The company apologised for the disruption and appreciated customers’ patience, understanding and cooperation during the repairs.
The repair works come as Nairobi continues to face rising demand for water services.
