Sister Anselmina Karimi has been buried at the Catholic cemetery for nuns and priests in Nkabune, Meru County, bringing closure to a solemn period that began with her mysterious death on October 12, 2025.
The late nun was found with head injuries and a broken neck, circumstances that raised widespread concern and led to investigations into the cause of her death.
Her burial was delayed for several months due to court proceedings connected to the ongoing inquiry, as authorities sought to preserve key evidence while detectives worked to establish the circumstances of her death.
Family members, fellow religious sisters, clergy, and members of the faithful gathered to pay their final respects, recalling Sister Karimi’s years of devoted service and dedication to the community. As she was laid to rest, mourners renewed calls for truth and justice over the circumstances surrounding her death.
Sister Caroline Kanjiru, the fellow nun initially arrested as the prime suspect, was later released from custody after police and DCI forensic teams found no direct evidence linking her to the murder.
Investigators examined her DNA and phone data and concluded that there was insufficient evidence to charge her. She was later made a State witness and is expected to assist investigators in efforts to unravel the circumstances surrounding Sister Karimi’s death.
While the burial marks the end of Sister Karimi’s life journey, questions about her death remain unanswered, with investigations continuing as authorities seek to bring those responsible to justice.
