A Kenya Power employee has been apprehended by the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) on allegations of accepting a bribe to restore electricity to a residential property.
The EACC confirmed on Friday, May 29, that the Kenya Power worker allegedly demanded Ksh30,000 to reconnect electricity that the utility company had cut off two days prior.
In the course of the arrest, the anti-graft agency also detained an accomplice connected to the bribery scheme, disclosing that the Kenya Power employee is based at KPLC’s Donholm office.
“The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) has apprehended a Kenya Power employee and an accomplice for soliciting and accepting a bribe to restore electricity to a residential property,” the commission stated.
According to the commission, on Thursday, May 28, following a complaint from a resident whose electricity supply had reportedly been disconnected.
“The arrest stemmed from a complaint filed with the Commission on May 28, 2026, by a resident whose electricity had been disconnected two days earlier,” it added.
Sources familiar with the investigation revealed that detectives conducted an operation after receiving the complaint, allowing them to monitor and document exchanges between the complainant and the suspects.
The suspects were subsequently taken to the Integrity Centre in Nairobi for processing, while investigations into the matter continue to intensify.
The arrests occur amid increasing concern over bribery allegations involving power technicians accused of demanding payments to reconnect electricity previously disconnected by the company.
Weeks earlier, another individual was apprehended in Vihiga for demanding a Ksh20,000 bribe for power reconnection.
The suspect worked at KPLC’s Mbale-Vihiga office as a technician and was arrested on May 6, 2026, following a meticulously planned sting operation by the commission after months of developing a case against him.
The arrest contributes to an expanding list of public officers facing prosecution as the EACC strengthens its efforts to combat corruption within critical public service institutions.
