A former head of a distinguished educational institution has been taken into custody for his suspected role in the 2025 Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) examination irregularities.

The individual was apprehended in Embu County on Tuesday, May 26, by law enforcement officials and is set to be prosecuted alongside a staff member connected to the school.

The pair is under investigation for their alleged participation in actions that undermined the integrity of the previous year’s national examinations.

The former school administrator is specifically accused of displaying examination answers on a large screen for students before the exams took place in November 2025.

After receiving the reports, detectives conducted a raid at the facility to make arrests, but the principal escaped, avoiding capture.

He was subsequently dismissed from his duties by the Teachers’ Service Commission (TSC), while the investigation into the matter continued.

Prior to the malpractice allegations, the institution achieved an exceptional performance by surpassing established academic institutions. It obtained an impressive A- (minus) average score of 10.5686, outperforming schools like Alliance High, Kenya High, and Starehe Boys to become the highest-achieving school in the nation.

This achievement came a year after the educator left his principal position at Alliance School to lead this institution.

The arrest occurs at a time when authorities are intensifying efforts to combat fraudulent certification, making arrests of individuals suspected of securing employment through fake KCSE certificates.

A recent case involved the detention of a former employee at an unspecified organization, who was reported to have acquired a counterfeit KCSE certificate.

This individual is alleged to have received more than Ksh5 million in wages before the enforcement action, a sum that authorities stated would be fully recovered.
