Police in Nyali, Mombasa, are investigating the death of a 49-year-old man whose decomposing body was discovered inside his residence in the Mgongeni area of Kisimani-Frere Town.
The case was reported on Thursday by a local elder from Mgongeni.
Law enforcement from Mbungoni Police Post responded to the location and found the remains of Felix Omondi inside his small servant’s quarters.
Authorities estimate the victim had passed away approximately three to four days prior, as decomposition had already set in.
Initial information indicates Omondi had been living alone after separating from his spouse, who reportedly moved to Malindi.
Local residents informed authorities they last saw the man alive on Sunday, May 17, during daylight hours.
The location was examined and recorded as the inquiry into the fatality progresses.
In a separate case, officials in Malindi, Kilifi, are probing a potential murder after the remains of a 48-year-old man were found decaying in his home within the Gede Rainbow area.
The incident was reported to Gede Police Station on Friday by a community member who contacted authorities after detecting a bad odor coming from his uncle’s residence.
Authorities discovered the deceased, James Kasiwa Muhambi, lying face up on a bed with the residence door open.
Police noted blood seeping from the victim’s ears, along with a swollen face and neck. The tongue was visible outside the mouth, with one hand clenched into a fist.
Investigators reported the man had last been seen alive three days before discovery.
The scene was processed and documented by forensic staff before the remains were transported to the Malindi Sub-County Referral Hospital morgue for pending autopsy.
In another development, police in Ruiru, Kiambu, are examining a sudden death case where a man collapsed and died at a small grocery store along the Ruiru bypass.
According to official statements, the incident occurred on Friday. The deceased, identified as Peterson Kinyanjui, had approached a local merchant attempting to sell him a bunch of bananas.
The business owner told police that around 3 pm, he briefly turned to assist another customer before noticing Kinyanjui suddenly fall and lose consciousness.
Police officers and detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) responded to the scene, where it was processed and documented.
The body was subsequently transported to the Kenyatta University Teaching, Referral and Research Hospital morgue for a postmortem examination to determine the cause of death.
Elsewhere, authorities in Gatanga, Murang’a, are investigating the death of a 38-year-old man discovered deceased in his residence in Gathanji village.
The case was reported to Kirwara Police Station on Friday at approximately 9:10 pm by Julius Kamande Mwaura, 72, after he found his son, Samuel Mwaura Kamande, lying unresponsive on a bed inside the home.
According to the report, the father grew concerned after not seeing his son throughout the day and decided to check on him around 8:30 pm.
Upon entering the residence, he found his son unconscious and immediately notified the local assistant chief, who directed him to report the matter to police.
Officials visited the location and determined that the body showed no visible signs of injury.
The scene was processed and documented before the remains were moved to Kirwara Funeral Home for pending autopsy.
