Survey Shows Kenyan Priorities for Solving Fuel Crisis

by KenyaPolls

A recent GeoPoll survey indicates significant disagreement among Kenyans regarding government approaches to resolving ongoing fuel shortages.

The findings highlight increasing public concern about energy security, with citizens advocating for a combination of immediate market actions and long-term infrastructure improvements to stabilize fuel availability.

Leading public recommendations focus on both economic and regulatory measures. Exactly 33% of participants want the government to secure more advantageous fuel import agreements, achieving better terms internationally to protect consumers from volatile global pricing.

Similarly, another 33% believe stricter control of domestic fuel prices represents the most essential measure to prevent price manipulation and maintain economic stability.

Beyond these immediate pricing solutions, citizens are seeking comprehensive structural changes. The survey indicates that 27% of Kenyans favor expanding local fuel production capabilities to decrease dependence on imported refined products, while an equivalent 27% call for substantial investment in alternative energy systems to move away from fossil fuels completely.

At the same time, responsibility and protective measures remain important priorities for the public. Twenty-six percent of respondents demanded rigorous enforcement against fuel hoarding and oil monopolies, which are commonly cited as causes of manufactured shortages.

Additionally, 25% of those surveyed stressed the importance of developing strategic fuel stockpiles to guarantee sufficient reserves during periods of supply chain interruptions.
