The Kenya Meteorological Service Authority (KMSA) has cautioned that rainfall will continue across multiple counties until May 25.
In a weekly forecast issued on May 18, the weather agency indicated that counties east of the Rift Valley, including Nairobi, Kiambu, Murang’a, Nyeri, Kirinyaga, Nyandarua, Embu, Meru, Laikipia, and Tharaka-Nithi, will continue experiencing intermittent rainfall in the coming days.
“Rainfall is expected to persist in the Highlands East of the Rift Valley according to the latest forecast,” stated KMSA.
KMSA also identified Kericho, Nandi, Uasin Gishu, Nakuru, Narok, Kisii, Nyamira, Bungoma, Kakamega, Busia, Siaya, Kisumu, Homa Bay, Migori, Trans Nzoia, West Pokot, and Elgeyo Marakwet as counties expecting continued downpours this week, all located in the Western region of the Rift Valley.
People in the affected counties can anticipate cloudy mornings followed by afternoon showers and thunderstorms, with some rain continuing into the night as temperatures stay relatively low in various parts of the country, according to the meteorological service.
“Sunny intervals are expected in the mornings, though rain may occur in a few places. Afternoon showers and thunderstorms are expected over a few places, occasionally spreading to several places,” noted KMSA.
The weather organization also mentioned that sunny spells are likely to appear during some mornings and afternoons, though isolated showers may still occur in several areas before conditions temporarily clear later in the day.
Mornings are expected to remain cloudy before giving way to brief sunny periods, with afternoon showers forecast in a few areas as evenings turn partly cloudy and cool.
Counties in the northwestern part of the country, such as Turkana and West Pokot, are expected to have mainly sunny conditions during the day and partly cloudy nights, though occasional light morning rains may occur in isolated areas.
KMSA further projected that northeastern regions including Wajir, Mandera, and Garissa will largely experience sunny intervals and dry daytime conditions, though some locations might record brief morning showers before skies gradually clear as the day progresses.
Residents in Kitui, Makueni, Machakos, Kajiado, and Taita Taveta counties should also expect sunny intervals during the day, with isolated afternoon showers likely to develop in a few places later on.
At the Coast, including Mombasa, Kilifi, Kwale, Lamu, and Tana River, people are expected to experience warm sunny conditions during the day alongside mostly during mornings and nighttime hours.
