The Anti-Doping Agency of Kenya (ADAK) has intensified efforts to prepare Team Kenya for the 24th African Senior Championships in Accra, Ghana, focusing on both athletic strength and doping-free participation.
During a comprehensive training session conducted on Wednesday, 67 Kenyan athletes preparing for the championship received detailed instruction on Athlete Whereabouts, a mandatory component of the World Anti-Doping Code. ADAK officials highlighted the necessity of precise reporting, readiness for random testing, and the penalties associated with failed tests or incomplete documentation.
“Competing for Kenya extends beyond athletic achievements to encompass principles of integrity, responsibility, and ethical conduct,” reminded ADAK representatives to the attending athletes.
Notable participants included Roseline Rakamba (800m), Belinda Oburu (400m hurdles and relays), Milisent Ndoro (100m and 200m), Alexander Kiprotich (10,000m), and Kiprotich Tonui (steeplechase), demonstrating the dedication of top-tier athletes to maintaining clean competition standards.
This educational initiative follows Kenya’s notable advancement in anti-doping measures, which resulted in the country being removed from the World Anti-Doping Agency’s (WADA) monitoring list earlier in the year. ADAK emphasized that educating athletes serves as a crucial preventive measure against potential doping infractions.
“Our directive to Team Kenya is unequivocal: Compete Fairly, Win Honorably!” declared ADAK representatives as preparations intensify for the May 12-17 continental competition.
