Principal Secretary for Internal Security and National Administration Raymond Omollo on Friday presided over a significant Boda Boda Stakeholder Engagement Forum in Busia County, addressing more than 2,000 riders.
The PS encouraged the riders to formally organize themselves, collaborate closely with security agencies, and fully take advantage of government empowerment programs designed to enhance their living standards.
He recognized the vital role the boda boda sector plays in Kenya’s economy, identifying it as one of the primary employment sources for young people nationwide.
The PS disclosed that similar engagement forums have already been conducted in Kilifi, Kisumu, and Homa Bay counties, with the government intending to implement the initiative throughout all 47 counties.
Omollo praised Busia boda boda operators for their excellent cooperation with security agencies and National Government Administrative Officers, noting that the positive working relationship has significantly contributed to peace and stability in the county.
The PS also restated President Ruto’s previous directive for the release of motorcycles impounded for minor offenses, urging security commanders to facilitate the return of bikes held over minor compliance issues in accordance with government policy.
On organization, Omollo urged riders to register under SACCOs and recognized associations, asserting that a well-structured sector would be more professional, more accountable, and better equipped to exclude criminal elements who have infiltrated the industry.
He also advised Busia residents to enroll under the Social Health Authority (SHA) program, noting that over 50 percent of residents had already registered, and encouraging more to join so the government can plan healthcare delivery more efficiently.
PS Omollo emphasized ongoing government development projects in the region, including road infrastructure, markets, affordable housing, and railway expansion, and appealed to residents to support peace and reject divisive politics.
“As people from Western Kenya, we value the current development programs and the endeavors being made to ensure every region receives equal benefits from government projects and opportunities,” he concluded.
