KANU Leader Urges Nationwide Party Promotion

Kenya African National Union (KANU), the nation’s independence party, is experiencing a strategic revival to reestablish itself as a significant political force nationally.

Mt. Kenya regional chairman Njunge Mukirae has directed party branch officials to initiate a vigorous promotional effort throughout the nation.

The chairman stated that the once powerful party is set for complete rejuvenation, instructing its branch representatives to advance the party’s promotion prior to the planned new member registration.

“Our goal is to ensure that by 2027, the party becomes a formidable entity. We aim to either form the next government or participate in it”, he expressed in Kikuyu during a public engagement tour.

Mukirae explained that KANU’s resurrection represents a calculated initiative to rebrand away from its image as a former single-party, authoritarian government.

Instead, it is presenting itself as the “Chama cha Wananchi” (Party of the People) or “Karibu Nyumbani” (Welcome Home).

Under Gideon Moi’s leadership, KANU is utilizing its extensive 60+ year history and current, albeit inactive, rural infrastructure to execute a “daring and strategic comeback,” highlighting solidarity and national harmony.

By transcending the oppressive recollections of the 1982-1991 single-party period, contemporary KANU seeks to reinterpret its legacy, emphasizing its contribution to nation-building rather than the repression that ultimately compelled Moi to embrace multi-party democracy in 1991.

The party is concentrating on youth involvement and advancement, vowing to strengthen communities and reestablish political stability in a volatile environment, positioning itself as a party with profound historical foundations.
