Kenya is grieving the demise of Ol Kalou Member of Parliament David Njuguna Kiaraho.
His death was officially reported to the National Assembly by Speaker Moses Wetang’ula.
In a formal notification from Sunday, March 29, 2026, the Speaker revealed that the three-term legislator passed away at approximately 1:20am during medical treatment at Nairobi Hospital.
Wetang’ characterized the loss as “premature” and a setback to Parliament and the nation.
“It is with deep regret that I inform Members of the National Assembly… of the premature passing of the Ol Kalou representative,” Wetang’ stated, offering sympathies to the family, associates and voters of the late MP.
Kiaraho, who represented Ol Kalou Constituency in Nyandarua County since 2013, was serving his third term, having been re-elected in 2017 and 2022.
He participated actively in significant parliamentary committees, such as the Departmental Committee on Transport, Public Works and Housing, along with the Procedure and House Rules Committee.
Born on October 2, 1963, Kiaraho studied at Alliance High School before completing a Bachelor’s degree in Architecture at the University of Nairobi.
Prior to entering politics, he established himself as a principal architect at Archgrid Systems, gaining acclaim in infrastructure and construction initiatives.
The Speaker also disclosed the establishment of a funeral planning committee to organize burial proceedings and assist the family.
The group will be guided by Kinangop MP Kwenya Thuku, supported by Nyandarua Woman Representative Faith Gitau and additional members.
Kiaraho’s death occurs just weeks after the passing of another MP Johanna Ngeno, highlighting a challenging era for Kenya’s political figures.
His demise creates a leadership gap in Ol Kalou Constituency and is anticipated to result in a by-election as stipulated by the Constitution.
