The United Democratic Alliance (UDA) and Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) have reinforced their dedication to the Broad-Based Government partnership, revealing substantial achievements in executing their common 10-point agenda and forming a new Joint Technical Committee to guide future policy directions.

During the second Joint Parliamentary Group (PG) session convened at the Kenyatta International Convention Centre (KICC), both factions disclosed that roughly 80% of the pledged commitments outlined in their Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) have been fulfilled.

The gathering, which brought together 253 Members of Parliament from both Kenya Kwanza (UDA) and ODM, assessed developments from the previous year and obtained an extensive report from the Oversight Committee regarding the 10-point agenda’s status. This agenda, primarily derived from the National Dialogue Committee (NADCO) recommendations, addresses vital national concerns such as: Electoral reforms, cost of living interventions, governance enhancements, economic stability and Institutional reforms.

The session emphasized concrete results attributed to the collaboration, encompassing: Lowered inflation rates, ongoing fertilizer subsidies for agricultural support, improved healthcare access through the Social Health Authority, intensified anti-corruption initiatives and resumption of halted road infrastructure projects through the securitisation of the Road Maintenance Levy Fund.

According to the parties, these measures have fostered a conducive atmosphere for economic initiatives, broadened opportunities particularly for youth, and played a crucial role in enhancing political stability.

To capitalize on this progress, the Joint PG resolved to create a Joint Technical Committee featuring four representatives from each party, with their Executive Directors acting as joint secretaries.

The gathering also decided to prolong the Oversight Committee’s mandate by 60 days, enabling it to conclude pending issues stemming from agenda implementation.

Reaffirming their solidarity, the Joint Parliamentary Group underscored its commitment to sustained collaboration for national benefit, pursuing reforms focused on fortifying Kenya’s democratic institutions, stabilizing the economic situation, and enhancing living standards for all Kenyan citizens.

The second Joint PG session occurs amid escalating talks about strengthening the UDA-ODM alliance, which has been acknowledged for mitigating political conflicts and facilitating targeted governance since its establishment.
