Political leaders have been advised to refrain from engaging in offensive political conduct, noting it creates a negative example for the youth.
Kiambu politician Stephen Waweru, commonly referred to as “Western,” expressed concern that opposition leaders persistently targeting President William Ruto with insults is improper.
Waweru emphasized that the constitution designates the president as a symbol of national unity, stating that those who attack Ruto demonstrate a lack of patriotism, as their hateful rhetoric insults all Kenyans.
He cautioned against using derogatory terms like “thief,” “kasongo,” and similar labels, urging politicians to abandon such tactics and adopt a different approach to politics.
“Certain political terminology has become outdated. In our nation today, we require factual information delivered with respect,” he suggested.
“Accusations that lead to such labels are dangerous as they require substantiation. What if legal action is taken for defamation? Would accusers have evidence to support claims of theft in court?” he questioned.
Waweru commended Ruto for maintaining composure despite facing constant name-calling and unfounded allegations.
“Our president values peace and consistently focuses on development. We encourage him to continue his service to Kenyans,” he stated.
“We will evaluate him based on his performance. Many supporters appreciate his work and dismiss opposition criticism. I am confident he will secure re-election to serve the nation further,” he added.
Addressing young people in Limuru, he encouraged them to always maintain peace.
“Our government deserves respect as it operates transparently. We have witnessed improvements in education, healthcare, infrastructure, and commerce, all directed at enhancing Kenya’s economy and citizens’ welfare,” he noted.
