Nairobi’s Pipeline Estate is facing daily hardships as the rainy season brings relentless challenges to thousands of residents. Consistent heavy rainfall each morning and evening has rendered the local roads nearly impossible to traverse. Primary streets have become thick, grey channels of mud and standing water. Both drivers and pedestrians must carefully navigate a dangerous environment filled with deep puddles and muddy surfaces. Residents are enduring physical difficulties as they move through waterlogged pathways. One local resident struggles with a handcart full of water containers, finding it difficult to move through the saturated ground. The estate’s characteristic high-rise buildings now watch over streets barely accessible to vehicles or people. Amid these challenging conditions, community members adapt by setting up market stalls on any available dry patches of ground. Food vendors operate under large umbrellas, wearing protective boots while working amidst waterlogged areas. Motorcycle taxi operators wait for customers on the limited firm ground available. The recent rainfall exceeding 20mm within 24 hours is anticipated to persist across various regions from March 3-9, 2026. Meteorologists predict the precipitation will strengthen most between March 4-7, 2026, before subsiding in most locations by March 8.
