Limuru Merchants Pledge Self-Help Speed Bumps After Schoolchild Injury

Merchants in Limuru town warn they will independently construct speed redu Larger along the Kwambira-Nairobi highway after a Thursday morning collision involving a grade three pupil.

The incident happened near Limuru Town Comprehensive School where the child was walking among fellow students when struck and injured. Reportsன்ன indicate the driver initially fled following students’ outcries but later reported to Limuru Town Police Station.

Teachers, motorcycle operators, and shopkeepers assisted at the scene, transporting the injured child to a nearby medical facility exclusively for emergency care.

Business owner Timothy Karanja highlighted that previous road upgrades neglected to restore multiple safety bumps that once existed.

“Only two bumps remain where five once slowed vehicles. Drivers traverse at dangerous velocities through town centers,” Karanja observed, identifying hazardous zones near Naivas, Shell station, and Bata Shoe Factory.

Local Francis Ndirangu pressed the national highways authority to install protective measures at busy intersections. Ndirangu claimed repeated pleas to area representative John Kiragu produced no action.

“Traders and citizens will discreetly fund and install bumps overnight if authorities delay,” Ndirangu disclosed.

Traffic police later inspected the accident zone and hospital. Commanding officer Chief Inspector Agripina Lugonzo urged parental supervision for students and promoted footbridge use given heavy vehicular traffic near educational institutions.

Parliamentary candidate Stephen Mwangi urged the incumbent legislator to formalize demands with transport authorities. He defended collective action if government response stalls.

“Residents shouldn’t be barred from addressing dangers when elected leadership repeatedly ignores pleas,” Mwangi asserted.

Despite unsuccessful contact attempts with MP Kiragu, his office manager George Gachumi pledged to examine the concerns.
